About the Role
The General Accountant role at h2o.ai is a temporary position with the potential to convert to full-time employment. As a key member of the finance and accounting team, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, travel and expense, cash management, prepaids, and accruals. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, scaling AI software/technology environment and have experience with ERP systems, procurement, payables systems, and reconciliations.The finance and accounting team at h2o.ai plays a critical role in ensuring the company's financial integrity and operational efficiency. The team is responsible for managing the company's financial systems, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The General Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager and other team members to achieve these goals.

What You Will Do
- Perform general accounting and month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
- Prepare supporting schedules and analysis for financial statement disclosures and footnotes, or external audit requests
- Support the accounts payable process end-to-end, including invoice entry, approval workflows, and timely payments using systems such as Bill.com and SAP S/4 Hana
- Support the travel and expense reimbursement process, helping to enforce company travel and expense policies, and perform the reconciliations for the associated accounts using systems such as Navan, Concur, Bill, Expensify, Ramp, NetSuite, and SAP S/4 Hana
- Support cash activity, including uploading bank statements, cash match, and bank reconciliations
- Maintain accurate vendor records and assist with 1099 reporting
- Partner with internal teams to ensure accurate classification of expenses and timely processing of invoices
- Assist with financial audits and compliance initiatives as required
- Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements
- Analyze and investigate accounting discrepancies and resolve issues in a timely manner
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Public accounting background (Big 4 or equivalent) strongly preferred, or demonstrated technical accounting expertise
- 4+ years of general accounting experience, preferably in the software or technology industry
- Experience in ERP systems, such as SAP S/4 Hana, NetSuite, and procure-to-pay systems, such as Bill.com, Ariba, Navan, Concur
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and a solid understanding of core accounting principles
- Intermediate Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, etc.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a collaborative environment
- Experience with cloud-based financial tools and systems
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Nice to Have
- Experience with multi-entity or international accounting
- Certification in accounting, such as CPA or CMA
- Experience with financial planning and analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI
