About the Role
The Genetic Counselor Clinical Reviewer position at Cigna is a remote opportunity that involves overseeing laboratory molecular and genetic testing clinical case review activities. What You Will Do
- Evaluate requests for authorization of coverage of molecular and genetic laboratory tests
- Compare requests against established clinical protocols
- Authorize coverage of services or refer requests for expert clinical review as needed
- Serve as an expert advisor for physicians and labs on the appropriate use of genetic testing
- Provide guidance on new and cutting-edge genetic tests entering the market
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective and efficient use of genetic testing
- Develop and maintain knowledge of current genetic testing trends and technologies
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to optimize genetic testing processes
- Communicate complex medical information to healthcare professionals and patients
What We Are Looking For
- Master's degree in genetic counseling
- Board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or the American Board of Medical Genetics
- Licensure in the state of residence (if available)
- At least 2 years of experience as a Genetic Counselor
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly explain complex medical information
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort and familiarity with pediatric, adult, and perinatal genetics and related genetic tests
- Experience with computer data entry and customer service
Nice to Have
- Experience with managed care
- Familiarity with electronic health records
- Knowledge of current genetic testing trends and technologies
- Certification in a related field, such as medical genetics
