About the Role
The GIS Specialist role at Celerity is a unique opportunity for a skilled professional to apply their technical expertise in geospatial science to drive business outcomes in the utility sector. This role will support the mapping, data validation, and quality assurance activities for electric utility asset systems, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of critical infrastructure data. As part of a dynamic team, the GIS Specialist will collaborate with various stakeholders to identify, analyze, and resolve data quality issues, leveraging their expertise in GIS and data analysis to inform business decisions.The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will involve working closely with the data management team to develop, implement, and maintain geospatial databases and datasets. The GIS Specialist will also be responsible for creating and updating maps, performing spatial analysis, and conducting data quality checks to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the data. Additionally, this role will require strong communication and interpersonal skills, as the GIS Specialist will need to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data analysts, engineers, and project managers.
Given the remote nature of this role, the successful candidate will be self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. They will also be required to participate in virtual meetings, collaborate with team members through digital platforms, and maintain open communication channels to ensure seamless project execution.
What You Will Do
- Develop and maintain geospatial databases and datasets to support utility asset management
- Create and update maps, perform spatial analysis, and conduct data quality checks
- Collaborate with the data management team to identify, analyze, and resolve data quality issues
- Design and implement data validation and quality assurance processes to ensure data integrity
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data analysts, engineers, and project managers
- Develop and maintain documentation of geospatial data and processes
- Participate in virtual meetings and collaborate with team members through digital platforms
- Conduct spatial analysis and mapping to support business decisions
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies in GIS and data analysis
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders to ensure data needs are met
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Science, or a related field
- 3-5 years of professional experience in GIS, with a focus on data validation and quality assurance
- Experience supporting mapping, data maintenance, or asset data workflows
- Strong understanding of geospatial data and principles, including data structures and spatial analysis
- Proficiency in GIS software, such as ArcGIS or QGIS
- Experience working in structured QA/QC or data validation environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and participate in virtual meetings
Nice to Have
- Experience working with electric utility asset systems and data
- Knowledge of data management principles and practices
- Familiarity with programming languages, such as Python or R
- Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI
- Certification in GIS or a related field, such as GISP or CGIS
