About the Role

The Government Affairs Leader - Australia will play a pivotal role in shaping GE Vernova's strategy in the region, focusing on building strong, meaningful relationships with government stakeholders, policymakers, and industry influencers. This role is crucial for the company's growth and success in Australia and New Zealand, as it navigates the complex landscape of energy policy and regulation. The leader will work closely with various business units and corporate functions to align government engagement efforts with business objectives, ensuring that GE Vernova maintains a strong, influential voice in the policy-making process.

As part of the GE Vernova team, the Government Affairs Leader will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business leaders, marketing, and communications, to promote the company's interests and values. This involves developing and executing a comprehensive government engagement strategy, identifying opportunities for growth, and mitigating potential risks associated with regulatory changes.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and execute GE Vernova's federal and state government engagement strategy in Australia, focusing on building and maintaining strong relationships with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and diplomatic partners.
  • Provide strategic insights on policy, regulatory, and geopolitical developments that could impact GE Vernova's operations in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Support market access and business growth by leveraging expertise in government institutions and decision-making procedures.
  • Work closely with business leaders and corporate functions to shape advocacy efforts and support government-facing bids.
  • Strengthen GE Vernova's external influence and reputation through effective engagement and communication strategies.
  • Develop and facilitate the execution of business strategies in Australia, providing international market intelligence to support business growth.
  • Coordinate responses to government inquiries, regulatory proposals, and other solicitations.
  • Identify and inform GE Vernova businesses about governmental (commercial) opportunities.
  • Monitor public policy and provide timely geopolitical analysis to support informed decision-making.
  • Partner with Corporate functional leaders to ensure alignment and support for government engagement efforts.
  • Support sales to governments by tailoring bids to government needs, marshalling government support, and utilizing government financing options.
  • Provide expert advice on government institutions, decision-making procedures, and changes in government players.
  • Monitor the policy landscape in New Zealand and assist company leaders with engagement as needed.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, law, political science, or public policy; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in government and/or government affairs matters in Australia, with significant relevant experience in a government, global corporation, and/or international law or consultancy firm.
  • Deep knowledge of international government affairs, regulations, policies, funding programs, and priorities.
  • Strong understanding of government decision-making processes and procedures, and strong relationships with government officials and influencers.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and lead on a strategic level within a complex organization.
  • Domain expertise in the energy sector would be a significant advantage.
  • Previous experience in transactional support and government funding programs would be a significant advantage.
  • Ability to travel as needed to key locations in Australia and occasionally New Zealand.
  • Fluency in English is required.
