Job Description

About the Role

As a Graphic Designer at Civic Nation, you will play a crucial role in creating visual materials for various campaigns and initiatives. Your day-to-day tasks will include designing social media graphics, digital campaign assets, event materials, presentations, infographics, and publications. You will work closely with the communications team to develop and design creative materials that align with the company's brand guidelines. Your contributions will help tell the story of Civic Nation's work and lift up the initiatives and campaigns that aim to strengthen civic culture, civic power, and civic participation.

The communications team at Civic Nation focuses on creative messaging, digital activations, media relations, and more. As a Graphic Designer, you will be an integral part of this team, working collaboratively to develop strategic solutions to design and workflow challenges. Your ability to communicate effectively and present your work with confidence will be essential in this role.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and design creative materials for social media, presentations, email invitations, postcards, publications, event collateral, and more
  • Present your work with the ability to communicate why creative decisions were made
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment on a variety of projects across all of Civic Nation's initiatives
  • Inspire new ways of thinking, using fresh and unique approaches to designs
  • Collaborate with the creative team to create strategic solutions to designs and workflows
  • Understand Civic Nation's initiatives and maintain brand guidelines, templates, iconography, typography, illustrations, and visual imagery
  • Research, secure, and manage sourced photography that aligns with brand guidelines
  • Organize and deliver final files for both print and digital assets
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in graphic files for printing and online quality and integrity
  • Stay abreast with current design trends and techniques, sharing information and inspiration with creative team members

What We Are Looking For

  • 4+ years of experience creating graphic design work for both print and digital platforms
  • Experience in motion design, interaction design, and visual arts is a plus
  • Proven experience in consumer marketing, advocacy, nonprofit, or advertising environments is preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Proficiency in Figma for creating and editing visual designs, collaborating with team members, and preparing final assets
  • Proficiency in work tools: Google Workspace and MS Office Suite
  • Slack and Asana are a plus
  • Ability to collaborate across teams, support, balance, and prioritize multiple projects, and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to receive and incorporate feedback from the Creative Director and team members, translating creative direction into effective visual solutions while maintaining project goals and brand standards
  • Strong understanding of layout, typography, hierarchy, color theory, and other design principles
  • Knowledge of digital imaging, including file types, resolution, and color modes, as well as specifications, dimensions, and best practices when exporting images for social media platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Promotional copywriting and editing are a plus
  • Ability to take initiative and solve problems
  • A strong ability to listen, understand, connect, and collaborate with employees at all levels of the organization and across diverse backgrounds

Nice to Have

  • Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana or Trello
  • Certification in graphic design or a related field
