About the Role
The Payment Core team at Coinbase is responsible for the heart of how fiat money moves, processing hundreds of billions of dollars annually. As the Group Product Manager for Payment Core, you will own the product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for core payment processing infrastructure, payment method integrations, and payment lifecycle management. Your work will directly impact Coinbase's revenue, customer trust, and global growth.The role entails leading a team of product managers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to drive success rates optimization, least-cost routing, multi-partner redundancy, and payment method expansion. You will collaborate closely with the engineering team to shape system architecture, API design, and technical roadmap for payment processing systems at scale. Your ability to engage deeply with engineering, finance, compliance, and operations teams will be crucial in driving alignment and investment trade-offs.
What You Will Do
- Own the multi-year product vision and strategy for Payment Core, encompassing core payment processing, payment method integrations, and payment lifecycle management.
- Drive optimization of core payment funnels to improve success rates, reduce transaction costs, and increase the percentage of transaction-ready payment methods.
- Lead the strategy and execution for multi-partner payments infrastructure, enabling processing partner routing, redundancy, and failover to maximize reliability and cost efficiency.
- Partner with Engineering to shape system architecture, API design, and technical roadmap for payment processing systems at scale.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Treasury, Compliance, Legal, and adjacent platform teams to drive alignment and investment trade-offs.
- Build self-serve capabilities that enable Product Groups to leverage Payment Core without heavy integration overhead, unblocking growth across Coinbase's product surface.
- Shape Payment Core's response to evolving regulatory requirements and emerging payment rails, ensuring compliant-by-default systems that keep pace with industry dynamics.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of Payment Core, including success rates, transaction costs, and payment method coverage.
- Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning within the Payment Core team.
What We Are Looking For
- 10+ years of product management experience, with deep expertise in payments infrastructure, payment processing, or fintech platforms.
- Track record of owning and driving product strategy for large-scale payment processing systems, including building or scaling payment rails, bank/network integrations, routing/processing systems, or payment method platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives in highly regulated environments, with fluency across the intersection of product, engineering, finance, compliance, and operations.
- Proven ability to engage deeply with engineering on system architecture, APIs, reliability engineering, and distributed systems for payment processing at scale.
- Experience leading through influence, driving alignment across engineering, finance, compliance, and business stakeholders, and articulating complex platform strategy and investment trade-offs to senior and executive leadership.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and drive data-informed decisions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

- Experience with cloud-based payment processing systems, such as AWS or Google Cloud.
- Knowledge of emerging payment technologies, such as blockchain or cryptocurrency.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks, such as PCI-DSS or GDPR.
