About the Role
The Growth Lead, SMB Ads position at Openai is a pivotal role designed to build and scale the growth engine for small and medium-sized business advertisers on Openai's advertising platform. This involves developing and executing acquisition and activation strategies to help these businesses discover, sign up for, and begin spending on the platform. The role is highly strategic and hands-on, operating at the intersection of acquisition, activation, performance marketing, product-led growth, experimentation, and advertiser education. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team that takes a data-driven approach to understanding customer needs, market dynamics, and funnel behavior. Close collaboration with various departments such as Product, Engineering, Data Science, Sales, Partnerships, Finance, Operations, Design, and Communications is essential to create a cohesive end-to-end advertiser experience. Given the nature of the role, it's crucial to have a deep understanding of the current digital marketing landscape and the specific challenges faced by small and medium-sized businesses in the context of advertising technology.What You Will Do
- Develop and execute comprehensive acquisition and activation strategies tailored for SMB advertisers.
- Diagnose constraints in the advertiser funnel across multiple stages, including awareness, landing pages, sign-up, onboarding, campaign creation, first spend, and early repeat spend.
- Own and continuously optimize the SMB acquisition strategy across various channels such as paid, organic search (SEO & GEO), social, partnerships, referrals, product-led growth, and emerging channels.
- Improve sign-up flows, onboarding, campaign setup, billing, measurement, and first-spend experiences by partnering closely with Product and Engineering teams.
- Translate SMB customer insights into actionable positioning, messaging, funnel improvements, advertiser education, and product feedback.
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate experimentation, analysis, prototyping, campaign development, creative variation, and internal growth workflows.
- Establish operating rhythms for experiment planning, performance readouts, funnel diagnostics, and cross-functional growth decisions.
- Collaborate with contractors, agencies, or growth operators as necessary to enhance execution velocity.
- Contribute to defining how the acquisition and activation function should scale over time as the team grows.
What We Are Looking For
- Significant experience in growth marketing, product growth, performance marketing, demand generation, or SMB go-to-market roles, with a proven track record of measurable ownership of acquisition, activation, or revenue outcomes.
- Ability to improve self-serve, product-led, SMB, merchant, advertiser, or high-volume customer funnels and quickly move from strategy to execution.
- Strong analytical skills, with comfort in using funnel analysis, cohort analysis, experimentation, and business metrics to inform decisions.
- Product instincts and the ability to partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Data Science teams to enhance conversion and customer experience.
- Experience with AI-native workflows and tools to accelerate marketing processes.
- Ability to simplify complex advertising products into clear, compelling narratives for small business owners, operators, and marketers.
- Experience in growing advertisers, merchants, creators, or SMB customers through various channels.
