Job Description

About the Role

The RF Engineer will play a crucial role in designing and optimizing 4G/5G cellular networks and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) for Yrh. This position requires a deep understanding of RF principles, cellular network architecture, and DAS design. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Engineering Manager or Customer's Project Manager to deliver high-quality solutions that meet customer requirements.

As a key member of the engineering team, the RF Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, test, and deploy cellular networks and DAS systems. This role involves working with various stakeholders, including customers, vendors, and internal teams, to ensure seamless project execution. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong technical background, and the ability to work independently.

What You Will Do

  • Design and optimize 4G/5G cellular networks and DAS systems
  • Conduct requirements definition and network analysis to identify areas for improvement
  • Develop simulations using modeling tools like InfoVista Planet, IBWave, and Ekahau
  • Create designs for passive and active DAS systems, small cells, micro cells, and pico cells
  • Perform link budgets, coverage, and capacity planning for LTE, 5G-NR, and Wi-Fi networks
  • Design cellular networks using LTE, LTE+, 5G-NR, and Wi-Fi technologies
  • Develop private cellular networks for Industry 4.0 and critical infrastructure operators
  • Create BOM and CAPEX and OPEX estimates for cellular and Wi-Fi networks
  • Draft functional and technical specifications and requirements
  • Select and design RF transmission sites
  • Develop interconnection specifications
  • Follow up on network expertise and optimization
  • Conduct quality of service audits for DAS and small cell installations
  • Perform cellular coverage and performance measurements

What We Are Looking For

  • Electrical or computer engineering degree from a recognized engineering school
  • Member of Engineers Nova Scotia
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in the RF domain
  • Knowledge of cellular networks using technologies like LTE, LTE+, 5G-NR, and Wi-Fi
  • Experience with modeling tools like InfoVista Planet, Ekahau, and IBWave
  • Participation in telecom projects, including cellular network and DAS design projects
  • Knowledge of interference issues, Safety Code 6, micro-waves interconnexion, or optic fiber
  • Understanding of service deployment issues
  • Planning, design, coordination, and project management skills
  • Autonomous, responsible, and self-motivated with good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel around the Halifax region

Nice to Have

  • IBWave level 2 certification
  • Experience working in the Maritime market with operators and infrastructure present
  • Knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies in the RF domain
  • Familiarity with agile project management methodologies
