About the Role

The Handy Person position at Hawaiian's Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa is a unique opportunity to combine technical skills with a passion for hospitality. Located on the stunning Cable Beach in Broome, Western Australia, this resort offers a relaxed lifestyle with access to all major Australian cities. As a Handy Person, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the resort's facilities, including guest rooms, restaurants, and offices.

Day-to-day, you will respond to guest requests, perform basic repairs, and undertake preventative maintenance to prevent issues from arising. This role requires a proactive approach, as you will be working independently to identify and resolve problems before they impact the guest experience. You will also be part of a larger team, collaborating with other departments to ensure the resort runs efficiently.

What You Will Do

  • Respond to guest requests for assistance with room maintenance issues
  • Perform basic repairs, such as changing light globes and fixtures
  • Conduct smoke alarm maintenance to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Undertake basic plumbing tasks, including washer replacements and filter replacements for ice machines and water coolers
  • Repair or replace shutters and security screens as needed
  • Relocate existing and new furniture and fittings across the property
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the workshop, department vehicles, and carts
  • Assist with other maintenance tasks as required by the resort
  • Collaborate with the housekeeping team to ensure prompt resolution of maintenance issues

What We Are Looking For

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar maintenance or handyman role
  • Effective communication skills to interact with guests and other resort departments
  • Basic administration skills for reporting and record-keeping
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work, with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Availability to work a rotating fortnightly roster, including weekends and evening shifts
  • A current manual driver's license
  • Previous experience working in a hotel or resort environment is highly desirable
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols

Nice to Have

  • Experience with basic carpentry or electrical work
  • Familiarity with resort management systems or maintenance software
  • Certification in first aid or emergency response
