About the Role
As the Head of Development at Vizzlo, you will be responsible for leading the engineering team and driving the company's technical vision. This role is perfect for a hands-on technical leader who is passionate about shipping great software and cares about the craft. You will be working closely with the team to set the technical direction, unblock people, review code, and raise the bar on quality.Vizzlo is a small team of enthusiasts in a SaaS startup, and we're proud of our hands-on culture. We talk plainly to each other, and we improve anything we're working on until it's perfect. As the Head of Development, you will be expected to embody this culture and lead by example.
The role is based in Leipzig, but we are open to remote work within Germany. If you're a senior engineer who's ready to own a team and a platform without leaving the craft behind, this is the perfect opportunity for you.
What You Will Do
- Lead the engineering team across data visualization, frontend, backend, integrations, and DevOps
- Set the technical direction and make strategic decisions about technology choices and scalability
- Own the architecture and take responsibility for the overall technical vision
- Steer the frontend and backend development for web and desktop
- Drive the development of the browser-based data visualization engine
- Own the tech behind third-party integrations, including Google Slides and Microsoft PowerPoint
- Run the CI/CD pipeline and deployment process
- Keep production healthy and manage critical systems
- Ensure data protection and security standards are met
- Coordinate releases, hunt down bugs, and jump on customer integration issues
- Make coffee for the team occasionally
What We Are Looking For
- Excellent written and spoken English skills
- Good German skills are a plus
- 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
- Experience leading or mentoring a team
- Deep, practical knowledge of TypeScript, React, and Go
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS
- Experience with modern DevOps and CI/CD practices
- Track record of shipping in a SaaS environment
- Genuine interest in data visualization
- Strong communication skills and commercial sense

- Experience with data visualization tools and technologies
- Knowledge of Excel and its integration with data visualization
- Experience with cybersecurity and data protection
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies
