Job Description

About the Role

As the Head of Engineering at Particula, you will be responsible for leading the engineering team and driving the development of the company's infrastructure. This includes overseeing the day-to-day execution, stabilizing core infrastructure, and growing team velocity. You will work closely with the CTO and Head of AI to turn the company's technical vision into reliable, production-grade systems.

Particula is a prime rating provider for digital assets, and its mission is to make digital asset markets more accessible, secure, and transparent for institutional investors. The company is building an infrastructure layer that makes risk in tokenized finance machine-readable, on-chain, and composable. This includes an AI-driven risk scoring engine, a cross-chain risk protocol, and an institutional-grade analytics platform.

The technical challenges of this role include ingesting and normalizing on-chain and off-chain data at scale, running statistical risk algorithms on a hybrid database architecture, streaming real-time market signals, and serving everything through a multi-portal institutional platform. All of this will be done with an AI/ML pipeline deeply embedded in engineering workflows, including AI-assisted coding across the team.

What You Will Do

  • Own and scale the engineering function, leading day-to-day execution and stabilizing core infrastructure
  • Work directly with the CTO and Head of AI to turn a big technical vision into reliable, production-grade systems
  • Run all 1:1s, manage performance, unblock engineers, and drive accountability across frontend, backend, and cloud infrastructure
  • Translate product and business priorities into clear engineering roadmaps, sprint structures, and shipping cadences
  • Coordinate with the Head of AI to ensure smooth integration between the AI pipeline and the broader platform infrastructure
  • Introduce the right processes, such as code review, incident response, documentation, and testing, without creating bureaucracy
  • Hire and grow the team, owning recruiting, onboarding, and team composition decisions in close alignment with the CTO
  • Represent engineering in leadership discussions, bridging the gap between technical reality and business expectations
  • Drive delivery, ensuring the successful execution of engineering projects and initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize engineering projects

What We Are Looking For

  • 7-12 years of experience in software engineering, with 3+ years in an engineering leadership role owning a team directly
  • Proven track record managing and growing small-to-mid-size engineering teams in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Strong full-stack understanding, including backend systems, frontend delivery, cloud infrastructure, and API design
  • Experience inheriting and stabilizing broken or scaling infrastructure, not just greenfield builds
  • Excellent people management skills, with the ability to give direct feedback and create clarity in ambiguous environments
  • Strong communicator, able to translate between vision and execution fluently
  • Highly structured and process-oriented, but pragmatic, with a focus on shipping and improving
  • Entrepreneurial by nature, with a drive to build, own, and grow
  • Familiarity with data-heavy platforms, analytics infrastructure, or financial/fintech products
  • Experience with blockchain or Web3 infrastructure

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AWS EC2/EKS/ElastiCache/Amplify/Kinesis/SageMaker
  • Familiarity with Python, Laravel, Nuxt.js, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Qdrant, Claude, Cursor, Langdock
  • Knowledge of GitHub, Jira, Confluence, SonarQube
  • Certification in ISO 27001 and SOC 2

Benefits and Perks

  • Offsites with the team in exciting locations
  • Flexible working hours in a company that relies on remote work
  • Exciting product in a very dynamic market environment
  • Founding-level ownership of a key growth function
  • Values-based start-up culture
  • Many opportunities to develop further and network with committed people
  • Flat hierarchy
  • Access to cutting-edge technologies and tools
  • Professional development and growth opportunities
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package

How to Stand Out

  • Develop a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, and experience with scaling and stabilizing infrastructure
  • Showcase your ability to manage and grow engineering teams, with a focus on people management and communication skills
  • Highlight your experience with AI/ML pipelines and data-heavy platforms, as well as your knowledge of financial/fintech products
  • Be prepared to discuss your approach to incident response, documentation, and testing, and how you would implement these processes in a remote team
  • Emphasize your entrepreneurial spirit and drive to build, own, and grow, and be prepared to provide examples of how you have done this in the past
  • Research the company's technology stack and be prepared to discuss how you would contribute to it
  • Prepare examples of how you have successfully coordinated with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize engineering projects
