About the Role
InPlanet, a mission-driven ClimateTech startup, is seeking a Head of Legal to lead and strengthen the legal function. This role sits at the intersection of climate, mining, agriculture, and carbon markets, requiring a professional who can connect legal, operational, and commercial perspectives across Brazil and international markets. As a strategic partner to the business, the Head of Legal will act as the central legal hub, enabling the company to scale effectively through strong legal foundations.The successful candidate will have experience leading legal functions within a fast-growing startup or have worked closely with startup ventures as a trusted legal advisor. A structured business mindset and a holistic approach to the needs of a growing startup are essential.
The Head of Legal will report directly to the CFO and work closely with internal teams, including Science & Operations, HR, Business Development, and external legal boutiques, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.
What You Will Do
- Act as the central legal hub across all company functions, both locally (Brazil) and internationally
- Lead due diligence processes (legal and regulatory)
- Structure, negotiate, and manage complex contracts, including farmers, mining partners, NDAs, joint ventures, and international commercial agreements
- Own cross-border legal strategy and execution
- Strengthen and improve corporate governance and entity structures (Brazil & international)
- Work closely with tax advisors to ensure compliance
- Ensure compliance across multiple regulatory domains, including environmental, mining, and agribusiness
- Bridge legal across Science, Operations, Supply, Business Development, and People
- Manage external network of trusted legal advisors
What We Are Looking For
- Strong experience leading legal functions within a fast-growing startup or working closely with startup ventures as a trusted legal advisor
- A structured business mindset and a holistic approach to the needs of a growing startup
- Ability to connect legal, operational, and commercial perspectives across international markets
- Experience with contract management and negotiation
- Knowledge of corporate governance and compliance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in English and Portuguese (or ability to learn)
- Experience with Adjust and Excel
Nice to Have
- Experience working in a ClimateTech or sustainability-focused company
- Knowledge of carbon markets and environmental regulations
- Certification in law or a related field
- Experience working in an international team
