About the Role

The Head of Public Understanding at NOPE is a unique opportunity to shape the public conversation around AI safety and responsible development. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for building and leading NOPE's presence in the public discourse, engaging with a community of builders, researchers, journalists, policymakers, and ordinary users who are concerned about the impact of AI on society. Your role will involve creating and curating content, managing social channels, and participating in webinars and events to raise awareness about AI safety.

The team at NOPE is small, but passionate about creating a safer and more responsible AI ecosystem. They believe that keeping interactions safe shouldn't be a privilege only big companies can afford, and are committed to developing open-source classifiers and custom tooling to support this mission. As the Head of Public Understanding, you will be the public voice of NOPE, and will play a critical role in shaping the company's message and engaging with the wider community.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to raise awareness about AI safety and NOPE's mission
  • Create and curate high-quality content for social media channels, including blog posts, articles, and social media posts
  • Manage and grow NOPE's social media presence, including Twitter, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms
  • Engage with influencers, thought leaders, and other stakeholders to build relationships and promote NOPE's work
  • Participate in webinars, events, and conferences to represent NOPE and raise awareness about AI safety
  • Collaborate with the research team to develop and promote research findings and trackers
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, journalists, and industry leaders
  • Develop and implement a community engagement strategy to build a loyal following and promote NOPE's work

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field
  • Proven track record of building and engaging with online communities
  • Strong understanding of AI and its impact on society
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with social media management and content creation
  • Knowledge of open-source classifiers and custom tooling a plus

  • Experience working with policymakers or industry leaders
