Job Description

About the Role

The High School History Teacher position at Stride, Inc. is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students. As a highly qualified, state-certified educator, you will be responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. You will provide instruction, support, and guidance to students, managing the learning process and focusing on individual needs. The role requires a strong ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, and maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday.

The mission of Volunteer State Virtual Academy (VSVA), a Stride K12 partner school, is to provide an exemplary individualized and engaging educational experience for students. The school incorporates school and community/family partnerships, a rigorous curriculum, and a data-driven and student-centered instructional model. As a High School History Teacher, you will be part of a talented team dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

You will be working closely with students, parents, and learning coaches to advance each student's learning toward established goals. The role requires occasional travel for in-person professional development, student testing, and school events, approximately 20% of the time.

What You Will Do

  • Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students
  • Commit to personalizing learning for all students
  • Demonstrate a belief in all students' ability to succeed and meet high expectations
  • Differentiate instruction based on student level of mastery
  • Augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools
  • Maintain grade book ensuring student academic integrity, make student placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicate with and respond to students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner
  • Support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues, as well as basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom environment
  • Travel as required for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and school events
