About the Role
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) team at OpenAI plays a pivotal role in shaping the company's growth and performance. As an HRBP, APAC, you will be responsible for supporting OpenAI's expanding business across the Asia-Pacific region, working closely with senior leaders and their teams to design scalable structures, strengthen leadership capabilities, and drive decisions that enable people to do their best work. You will be based in the Singapore office and report to the International HRBP Leader.The successful candidate will be an experienced HR professional with a deep understanding of the APAC region's diverse cultures, business environments, and employment frameworks. You will be a strategic thought partner, able to guide leaders through ambiguity, make strong judgments, and influence decisions at pace.
What You Will Do
- Develop and implement people strategies that drive business outcomes and align with OpenAI's overall mission and objectives
- Partner with senior leaders to design and implement organizational design initiatives, talent plans, and succession approaches
- Coach and develop managers to strengthen their leadership capabilities and improve team performance
- Drive scalable people programs, such as performance management, engagement, talent planning, and retention, in collaboration with global HR teams
- Navigate complex people decisions, providing sound judgment and guidance to leaders and managers
- Lead change management initiatives, supporting reorganizations, leadership changes, and business evolution with clarity, empathy, and pace
- Identify emerging risks or opportunities, diagnose root causes, and deliver practical solutions quickly
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and product, to drive business outcomes
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including vendors, consultants, and industry experts
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements, applying this knowledge to drive innovation and improvement in HR practices
What We Are Looking For
- 7-10+ years of HR experience, including at least 5 years as an HR Business Partner in high-growth, matrixed, or complex environments
- Experience supporting multiple APAC markets, with a deep understanding of the region's cultures, business environments, and employment frameworks
- Strong coaching and development skills, with a track record of strengthening management capability through practical coaching and feedback
- Ability to guide leaders through ambiguity, make strong judgments, and influence decisions at pace
- Experience driving scalable people programs, including performance management, engagement, talent planning, and retention
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify emerging risks or opportunities and deliver practical solutions quickly
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with leaders, managers, and team members
- Ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics, with a strong understanding of power structures, influence, and decision-making processes
Nice to Have
- Experience working in the tech industry, with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing companies in this space
- Knowledge of AI technology and its applications in business
- Experience with HR systems and tools, including Workday, BambooHR, or similar platforms
- Certification in HR, such as SHRM-CP or HRCI-PHR
- Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment
