About the Role
The Inpatient Medical Coder role at UASI is a critical position that requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail. As a member of the healthcare information management team, you will be responsible for assigning accurate and consistent codes for inpatient diagnoses and procedures. This role is ideal for professionals who are passionate about healthcare and have a strong understanding of medical coding principles.The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will involve reviewing patient records, assigning codes, and ensuring that all coding is accurate and compliant with regulatory requirements. You will work independently, but also collaborate with other team members to ensure that coding is consistent and meets the company's high standards.

What You Will Do
- Assign accurate and consistent codes for inpatient diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems
- Review patient records to ensure that all coding is accurate and compliant with regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure that coding is consistent and meets the company's high standards
- Utilize Excel spreadsheets to manage data and track productivity
- Meet client productivity targets while maintaining coding quality of 95% or greater
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date with changing coding regulations and guidelines
- Communicate effectively with clients and team members through Outlook email and virtual meetings
- Adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with discretion
What We Are Looking For
- AHIMA or AAPC (CPC, CIC, COC) certification
- A minimum of two years' recent inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting
- Experience in coding ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes
- Technical competency with remote-based connectivity, including virtual private networks and multi-factor authentication
- Proficiency with office software, including Outlook email, calendar, and Excel spreadsheets
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
Nice to Have
- Experience with MS DRG Coding Classification Systems
- Knowledge of electronic health records (EHRs) and health information exchange (HIE) systems
- Certification in a specialized area of medical coding, such as pediatrics or oncology
