Internal Audit SOX Associate Manager

What You Will Do

• Own the day-to-day management of the BPO team executing SOX 404 control testing, including workload planning, prioritization, quality review of workpapers, and performance coaching
• Partner with Internal Audit SOX leadership to translate the annual SOX audit plan into clear testing assignments, ensuring appropriate scoping, coverage, and timing across in-scope processes and entities
• Lead coordination of process walkthroughs with functional business partners and external auditors, serving as the primary point of contact for the BPO team on testing methodology, evidence requirements, and interpretation of control objectives
• Drive SOX deficiencies to closure by performing root cause analysis, tracking remediation action plans, and validating remediation through follow-up testing in partnership with business owners and BPO resources
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with key internal partners across Business Controllership, Finance, IT, and Compliance, as well as BPO leadership and external auditors
• Manage the testing team's workload, ensuring that all tasks are completed on time and to a high standard
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring that the company's financial reporting is accurate and reliable
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Coinbase's business operations, including its products, services, and regulatory requirements
• Stay up-to-date with changes in the regulatory landscape, ensuring that the company's SOX compliance program is aligned with current requirements

What We Are Looking For

• 7+ years of accounting, financial audit, or SOX/ICFR experience, including hands-on SOX 404 testing in a public company or Big 4 public accounting environment
• Demonstrated experience managing or overseeing outsourced/BPO teams or staff-level auditors, including workload planning, coaching, and quality review of deliverables
• Deep technical knowledge of US GAAP, SOX 404, COSO, and internal controls over financial reporting within a complex, technology-driven financial services environment
• Professional certification such as CPA, CIA, or equivalent, with a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Proven ability to partner across Finance, IT, Compliance, BPO leadership, and external audit teams, and to operate effectively across time zones as part of a global team
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with internal stakeholders and external partners
• Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines

Nice to Have

• Experience working in the fintech or crypto industry, with a deep understanding of the regulatory requirements and challenges facing these companies
• Familiarity with Coinbase's products and services, including its cryptocurrency exchange and wallet offerings
• Experience working with generative AI tools, with a strong understanding of their potential applications and limitations in an audit and compliance context
• Certification in a related field, such as CISA or CFE
