Job Description

About the Role

The International and Operational Genetic Counselor (IOGC) plays a pivotal role in CooperSurgical's global genetic counseling team, utilizing practical genetics knowledge to maintain high laboratory standards of genetic testing services. This role is critical in supporting the delivery of genomic services, including preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), a cutting-edge technique that helps individuals and families make informed reproductive decisions. As part of a dynamic team, the IOGC works closely with laboratory operations and external clients to provide clinical and technical support, contributing to the broader goals of the CooperSurgical organization.

Day-to-day, the IOGC engages in a variety of tasks, from providing expert genetic counseling to supporting the improvement of delivered PGT products. This role requires a deep understanding of genetics, laboratory operations, and the ability to communicate complex information to both clinical and non-clinical stakeholders. The IOGC is also a key participant in departmental contributions to the CooperSurgical organization, collaborating with various teams to drive innovation and excellence in genetic testing services.

Given the remote nature of this role, the successful candidate will be adept at navigating digital tools and platforms, managing their time effectively, and maintaining open lines of communication with colleagues and clients across different time zones. What You Will Do

  • Provide genetic counseling services to clients, including pre-test and post-test counseling for PGT
  • Support laboratory operations to ensure high-quality genetic testing services
  • Develop and maintain educational materials for clients and healthcare professionals
  • Collaborate with the genetic counseling team to improve the delivery of genomic services
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory processes and outcomes
  • Communicate complex genetic information to clients, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders
  • Develop and implement genetic counseling protocols and guidelines
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in genetic testing and counseling techniques
  • Engage in professional development to maintain and enhance genetic counseling skills
  • Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to support the growth of genetic testing services
  • Contribute to the development of new genetic testing products and services

What We Are Looking For

  • Master's degree in Genetic Counseling or a related field
  • Board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or eligibility for certification
  • At least 2 years of experience in genetic counseling, preferably in a laboratory or clinical setting
  • Strong understanding of genetics, genetic testing, and laboratory operations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience with electronic health records and other digital tools
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

Nice to Have

  • Experience with preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) and other advanced reproductive technologies
