About the Role
The Italian Translator / Linguist role at Wikimedia is a unique opportunity to join a team of dedicated professionals working to make knowledge accessible to everyone. As a translator, you will be responsible for translating organization materials from English into Italian, as well as reviewing the translation work of others in your language for quality. This role is part of the Communications Translators group, which supports the translation of Wikimedia's communications materials.The Wikimedia Foundation is a nonprofit organization that operates Wikipedia and other free knowledge projects. The organization's vision is a world in which every single human can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. As a translator, you will be playing a critical role in helping to achieve this vision.
What You Will Do
- Translate organization materials from English into Italian, including articles, websites, and other communications materials
- Review the translation work of others in your language for quality and accuracy
- Provide translations of common Wikimedia terms and phrases
- Participate in translation projects as assigned, working collaboratively with other translators and stakeholders
- Meet deadlines and deliver high-quality translations in a timely manner
- Communicate effectively with other translators, editors, and stakeholders to ensure accurate and consistent translations
- Stay up-to-date with changes in language and terminology, incorporating these changes into translations as necessary
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to improve translation skills and stay current with industry trends
- Collaborate with other teams, such as communications and marketing, to ensure consistent messaging and branding
- Apply knowledge of Italian language and culture to ensure translations are accurate and culturally sensitive
What We Are Looking For
- Fluency in English and Italian
- Experience with translation, preferably in a digital or online context
- Strong writing and editing skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Familiarity with translation software and tools, such as Translate extension
- Experience with content management systems, such as WordPress
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure

Nice to Have
- Experience with Wikipedia or other wiki platforms
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS
