About the Role

The Isle of Man Public Service Careers is seeking a skilled Joiner to join their team, responsible for providing joinery services across a wide range of government sites, including schools, sports facilities, health buildings, and social care settings. This role is critical in ensuring that essential public buildings are maintained and upgraded to provide safe and compliant environments for the community. As part of a team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on various projects, from first and second fix construction to workshop production and assembly, and general maintenance, repair, and service.

What You Will Do

  • Provide joinery services across government sites, including schools, sports facilities, health buildings, and social care settings
  • Work on first and second fix construction projects, including installing doors, windows, and other fixtures
  • Participate in workshop production and assembly, creating items such as furniture and cabinets
  • Perform general maintenance, repair, and service tasks, including associated hardware
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard
  • Identify and report any defects or issues with buildings and equipment
  • Assist in the development of maintenance schedules and plans
  • Provide training and guidance to less experienced staff members
  • Stay up-to-date with new techniques and technologies, attending training and development courses as required
  • Participate in quality control processes to ensure high standards are maintained
  • Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the service

What We Are Looking For

  • A qualified Joiner with experience in a similar role
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of joinery practices and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with digital tools
  • A commitment to providing high-quality services and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel to different sites
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, and work at heights
  • Completion of a basic police check

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a government or public service environment
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures and regulations
  • Familiarity with building management systems and software
  • Certification in a related trade, such as carpentry or construction
  • Experience with project management tools and software
