Job Description

About the Role

As a Cable Jointer, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing the electrical network, ensuring that customers receive a reliable supply of electricity. Your day-to-day work will involve working on high and low-voltage networks, carrying out jointing, cabling, and excavation work. You will be part of a growing team that values safety, customer service, and career development.

The team is driven to achieve great results, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to this success. You will be working outdoors in all weather conditions, and you must be flexible to complete out-of-hours standby duties and attend short notice work in the event of severe weather.

What You Will Do

  • Work on high and low-voltage networks, carrying out jointing, cabling, and excavation work
  • Respond quickly to emergency situations, such as power outages, to minimize disruption to customers
  • Carry out pre-planned and quick response work to maintain the electrical network
  • Ensure the safety of yourself and colleagues, embedding a strong safety culture in everything you do
  • Act as an ambassador for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, providing excellent customer service
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme weather events
  • Complete out-of-hours standby duties and attend short notice work as required
  • Utilize tools and equipment, such as mini excavators and hand tools, to carry out your work
  • Collaborate with other teams to achieve shared goals and objectives
  • Develop your skills and knowledge to stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements

What We Are Looking For

  • Previous experience as a jointer, with a recognized cable jointing qualification in either LV, HV, 11kV, or 33kV
  • DNO industry experience in the UK or overseas, with a proven track record in construction, repair, and operation of electrical plant and equipment up to 11kV on DNO networks
  • Good HV and LV electrical knowledge, with a willingness to learn and develop your skills
  • A flexible approach to complete out-of-hours standby duties and attend short notice work
  • A high regard for safety, with a strong commitment to embedding a safety culture in everything you do
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical aspects in a transferable manner
  • Enthusiasm and drive, with a flexible approach to work and an ability to adapt to changing business and project priorities
  • Experience carrying out excavation of joint holes with hand tools and using a mini excavator
  • A full UK driving license, with the ability to travel to different locations as required

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a similar role, with a strong understanding of the electrical distribution network
  • Knowledge of industry-specific software and systems, such as cable management systems
  • A qualification in a related field, such as electrical engineering or a similar discipline
  • Experience working in a team environment, with a strong focus on collaboration and teamwork
