About the Role

The Fiscal Policy Intern position at the Independence Institute, part of the Koch Internship Program, is a paid, 12-week experiential learning opportunity that offers a deep dive into the world of fiscal policy and microeconomics. This internship is not just about gaining professional experience but also about acquiring knowledge and skills that are crucial in today's economic landscape. The role is based in the United States and requires candidates to be geographically located within the country and authorized to work throughout the duration of the program.

As a Fiscal Policy Intern, you will be part of a dynamic team working at the forefront of fiscal policy discussions. Your day-to-day activities will involve engaging with various aspects of fiscal policy, including research, analysis, and possibly contributing to projects or initiatives that aim to understand and improve economic policies. This role matters because it gives you the chance to contribute to meaningful work while developing your professional skills in a significant way.

The internship includes participation in a 2-day summit hosted by Stand Together Fellowships, which provides a unique opportunity for professional development and networking. You will also be required to attend virtual professional development training sessions every other Thursday from 1-4 PM ET, adding to your learning and growth throughout the internship.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct research on fiscal policy issues, including tax policy, budgeting, and economic trends
  • Analyze data and information to help in the development of policy recommendations
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, briefings, and other materials related to fiscal policy
  • Engage with colleagues and partners to understand different perspectives on fiscal policy issues
  • Participate in the development of projects or initiatives aimed at promoting better fiscal policies
  • Attend and contribute to meetings and discussions on fiscal policy matters
  • Collaborate with the team to achieve the goals and objectives of the Independence Institute
  • Develop and maintain databases and spreadsheets to track fiscal policy data and trends
  • Assist in the dissemination of information on fiscal policy issues through social media and other channels
  • Engage in professional development activities, including the 2-day summit and regular virtual sessions

What We Are Looking For

  • Eligibility to work in the United States throughout the internship
  • Understanding of basic principles of microeconomics
  • Further knowledge of economics, budgeting, tax policy, and/or accounting is helpful
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and ability to learn other software as needed
