About the Role
The Language Model Analyst role at Mercor is a part-time, fully remote position that offers the opportunity to work with a leading AI research lab. As a Language Model Analyst, you will play a critical role in evaluating and refining the company's language models, ensuring they are accurate, informative, and engaging. You will be part of a team of experts who are passionate about pushing the boundaries of what is possible with AI.The role entails conducting fact-checking, identifying response strengths and weaknesses, and assessing the overall quality of model responses. You will work closely with the research team to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance the performance of the language models.
What You Will Do
- Conduct fact-checking using trusted public sources and external tools to ensure the accuracy of model responses
- Generate high-quality human evaluation data by identifying response strengths, areas for improvement, and factual inaccuracies
- Assess reasoning quality, clarity, tone, and completeness of responses
- Ensure model responses align with expected conversational behavior and system guidelines
- Evaluate the overall quality of model responses and provide feedback for improvement
- Collaborate with the research team to develop strategies to enhance model performance
- Identify and report any inconsistencies or errors in model responses
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the language models and their capabilities
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments in AI research
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as linguistics, research, or analytics
- Native speaker in Tamil
- Significant experience using large language models
- Excellent writing skills in English
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Background or experience in domains requiring structured analytical thinking, such as research, policy, or engineering
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting and manage time effectively
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with RLHF, model evaluation, or data annotation work
- Experience writing or editing high-quality written content
- Experience comparing multiple outputs and making fine-grained qualitative judgments
- Familiarity with Excel and other data analysis tools
- Certification in a relevant field, such as AI or machine learning
