Job Description
About the Role
The Launch and Recovery Technician I plays a critical role in supporting the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission on Andros Island, Bahamas. This position involves working with a team of professionals to ensure the successful launch and recovery of underwater vehicles, as well as performing maintenance and repairs on various launcher systems. The technician will be responsible for operating and maintaining complex equipment, including hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.As a key member of the AUTEC team, the Launch and Recovery Technician I will work closely with other technicians, engineers, and military personnel to ensure the safe and efficient operation of underwater vehicles. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure. The technician will be expected to troubleshoot problems, perform repairs, and maintain equipment to ensure optimal performance.
What You Will Do
- Perform launch and recovery operations for underwater vehicles from vessels and helicopters
- Conduct maintenance and repairs on various launcher systems, including Telescopic Target Launcher/MK-32, Mod-17 Surface Launcher/Helicopter MK-146 Helicopter Launcher, MK-59 Torpedo Tube, and Smokey SAM Launchers
- Operate and maintain hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical equipment to support launcher and recovery systems
- Perform incoming inspections on RFI undersea vehicles and handle, prepare, and transport vehicles and associated equipment
- Operate tractor-trailer, forklift, and overhead cranes in accordance with NAVFAC guidelines
- Conduct rigging operations of heavy equipment per NAVFAC standards
- Handle, package, and transport hazardous ordnance material up to 1.1 per NAVORD standards
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of launch and recovery, hydraulic, and/or electronic experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance
- Valid passport and driver's license
- Ability to reside in a remote location with limited medical facilities
- Pass drug and alcohol screenings as well as DOT medical examinations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong technical skills and attention to detail
Nice to Have
- Current Secret security clearance
- AA/AS degree in Electronics or military equivalent
- U.S. Navy Basic and Advanced Underwater Torpedo School
- One or more years of experience launching undersea vehicles
- One year of experience in forklift, tractor-trailer, and overhead crane operations
- NAVFAC crane operator certification
