About the Role

The Lead Analytics Engineer will play a critical role in Monzo's Borrowing team, overseeing foundational data platforms and identifying opportunities to enhance current capabilities. This role matters because it will enable the company to scale into new global markets, build new products, and shape the future of how Monzo serves its customers. The Borrowing team is responsible for enabling people's financial goals through better borrowing, and the Lead Analytics Engineer will be instrumental in driving this mission forward.

The team at Monzo values data-driven decision making, and the Lead Analytics Engineer will be a key voice in shaping and maintaining best practices for the Data Warehouse. This includes source data payload design, logical data modeling, implementation, metadata, and testing standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data platforms and analytics solutions, as well as experience working with cross-functional teams.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as a data architect for Monzo's Borrowing data, contributing to the design and scalability of data models that measure the performance of the product suite.
  • Develop robust data models downstream of backend services, primarily in BigQuery, to support internal reporting, machine learning, large language models, as well as financial and regulatory use cases.
  • Design and implement data pipelines to support the growth of Monzo's Borrowing business.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize data-driven initiatives that drive business outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of data models, data sources, and data transformations.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure that data is properly integrated into the product.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering and analytics.
  • Participate in the development of the company's data strategy and roadmap.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role, with a strong background in data engineering and analytics.
  • Proficiency in BigQuery, with experience building and managing large-scale data sets.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL processes.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with machine learning or large language models.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms, such as AWS or GCP.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git.
