About the Role

As a Lead Backend Developer at Smart Working, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the company's backend systems, focusing on mission-critical aviation systems and advanced fuel management solutions. You will work closely with the development team to design, implement, and test backend architectures that meet business requirements and ensure optimal performance across digital platforms.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background, with expertise in PHP, Symfony, and PHPUnit. What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain backend systems using PHP, Symfony, and PHPUnit
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align business, technical, and testing goals
  • Estimate and plan tasks collaboratively to ensure delivery confidence
  • Review specs, design solutions, and deliver high-impact features
  • Monitor, deploy, and troubleshoot features in staging and production
  • Own incidents during on-call rotations, ensuring rapid resolution
  • Uphold and enforce coding and testing standards
  • Conduct code reviews, ensure test coverage, and maintain strong documentation
  • Stay up to date on tools, libraries, and secure coding practices
  • Break down complex work into manageable tasks for better delivery

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience with PHP
  • At least 1 year of experience with Symfony
  • 1.5+ years of experience with PHPUnit
  • Strong understanding of backend development principles and practices
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to deliver high-quality solutions

Nice to Have

  • Experience with MongoDB, Docker, Kubernetes, JavaScript, JQuery, React, API, NodeJS, and Typescript
  • Knowledge of OWASP secure coding practices
  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD), behavior-driven development (BDD), and domain-driven design (DDD)
