About the Role

As a Lead QA Engineer at Mutual Of Omaha, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of the company's software solutions. You will be responsible for developing and implementing automated testing strategies, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and mentoring junior engineers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in QA engineering, with a focus on automation and enablement.

The role entails working closely with the QA program manager, change manager, and other stakeholders to align technical QA strategies with broader program goals. You will be expected to analyze team readiness for automation adoption, prioritize engagement based on complexity and impact, and create and enforce QA governance standards.

As a key member of the Workplace Solutions team, you will work with 24 teams to adopt consistent and scalable testing practices. Your expertise in automation tools such as qTest, Cucumber, Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Karate, and Postman will be essential in driving quality practices across the organization.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and execute an iterative QA automation strategy across diverse tech stacks, including microservices, legacy systems, and AWS environments.
  • Partner with business analysts, engineers, and architects to integrate quality practices early in the software development lifecycle.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance on automation tools, including qTest, Cucumber, Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Karate, and Postman.
  • Analyze team readiness for automation adoption and prioritize engagement based on complexity and impact.
  • Create and enforce QA governance standards, frameworks, and best practices across the program.
  • Mentor team members and support upskilling of business analysts and engineers on test automation fundamentals.
  • Collaborate with the QA program manager and change manager to align technical QA strategy with broader program goals.
  • Define and execute a QA enablement strategy to ensure consistent and scalable testing practices across the organization.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test scripts.

What We Are Looking For

  • 7+ years of experience in QA engineering, with a strong focus on test automation and quality enablement.
  • Proven ability to lead QA initiatives in complex, multi-team or enterprise environments.
  • Proficiency with test automation tools, including Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Karate, and/or Postman.
  • Strong understanding of API testing and integration test strategies.
  • Experience working across varied tech stacks, including microservices, legacy systems, and cloud environments (AWS preferred).
  • Proficiency in Java and/or JavaScript.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working with business analysts, engineers, architects, and program leadership.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building or maturing a QA Automation Center of Excellence or enablement function.
  • Familiarity with dependency mapping and its application to testing strategy.
  • Background in group insurance, financial services, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Experience with change management or organizational transformation related to quality programs.
  • Knowledge of enterprise QA tooling evaluation and selection processes.
  • Agile/SAFe delivery experience in a multi-ART or program-level environment.
