About the Role
The Lead Regulatory Affairs Licensing Engineer will play a critical role in managing nuclear licensing projects for GE Vernova's operating fleet of Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs). This position requires a deep understanding of regulatory requirements and the ability to develop and implement effective licensing strategies. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and will serve as a key interface with customers and regulatory personnel.As a Lead Regulatory Affairs Licensing Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of licensing plans, coordinating with internal stakeholders, and preparing licensing documentation. Your expertise in regulatory affairs will be essential in ensuring that all licensing activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The role is part of a complex and dynamic environment, requiring the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and maintain a high level of attention to detail. You will be working in a collaborative team setting, engaging with various stakeholders to achieve shared goals and objectives.
What You Will Do
- Develop and implement licensing plans for nuclear projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including engineering and operations teams, to ensure alignment on licensing strategies
- Prepare and review licensing documentation, including Licensing Topical Reports (LTRs) and responses to customer and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) questions
- Manage the 10 CFR Part 21 Program, including the development and implementation of corrective action plans
- Interface with customers and regulatory personnel on regulatory issues, securing applicable permissions and approvals related to project scopes
- Support customer 10 CFR 50.59 reviews, including preparation of Technical Safety Evaluation Reports
- Collaborate with internal teams to evaluate the licensing status of various fuel and methodology changes
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory personnel and industry experts
- Stay up-to-date with changing regulatory requirements and industry trends, applying this knowledge to inform licensing strategies
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 3 years of direct commercial nuclear experience, including experience contributing to complex projects and cross-functional coordination
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to create technical reports suitable for a wide range of audiences
- Strong knowledge of NRC licensing processes and regulatory requirements
- Experience working with industry groups (i.e., NEI and Owners Groups) on nuclear licensing matters
- Effective interpersonal and facilitation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders
- Process skills related to coordinating and documenting complex technical documents
- Ability to manage workload and set priorities, with a focus on delivering high-quality results in a timely manner
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally, as required by the role
Nice to Have
- Experience working with Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) systems, fuel, or operations
- Knowledge of nuclear fuel, operating plants, or other related areas
- Experience working with export-controlled technology and familiarity with related regulations
- Certification in a relevant field, such as nuclear engineering or regulatory affairs
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices, including those related to licensing and compliance
