About the Role

The Lead Relationship Manager plays a critical role in driving business growth and managing key client relationships for Capital One's Strategic Client Management team. As a key member of the US & Canadian Markets team, this professional will focus on overcoming long-standing acceptance objections and developing strategic partnerships with companies of key importance to Discover Global Network. The successful candidate will possess a unique blend of business development, sales, and relationship management skills, with the ability to navigate complex relationships and drive business growth.

The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will involve working closely with internal and external partners to identify new business opportunities, develop business cases, and negotiate agreements that maximize network growth. The Lead Relationship Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, maintaining relationships with decision-makers and providing expert guidance on acceptance and operational efficiencies.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the payments industry, particularly debit and credit pricing, and will be able to leverage this knowledge to drive business growth and increase network transaction volume.

What You Will Do

  • Identify and engage key contacts to develop strategic partnerships and drive business growth
  • Develop business cases for new development activities with internal and external partners
  • Negotiate agreements that maximize network growth and increase acceptance and volume
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, maintaining relationships with decision-makers
  • Provide expert guidance on acceptance and operational efficiencies to key clients
  • Perform market analyses to maintain knowledge of industry trends and the competitive environment
  • Explore new partnership opportunities and manage a portfolio of clients to retain, grow, and drive existing and new business
  • Actively manage and evaluate risk and customer-impacting issues, ensuring compliance with new processes during contract and pricing negotiations
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the payments industry, including debit and credit pricing and emerging trends
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive business growth and increase network transaction volume

What We Are Looking For

  • At least 4 years of business development, sales, strategy, or relationship management experience within the financial services or payments industry
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills at the C-Suite level, including the ability to tailor communication across different leadership levels
  • Deep knowledge of the payments industry, particularly debit and credit pricing
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial drive, proactive approach, and ability to anticipate market trends within the vertical
  • Resiliency to navigate adversity in a fast-paced environment
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
  • Ability to travel approximately 25-30% of the time

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or Marketing
  • 5+ years of business development, sales, strategy, or relationship management experience within the financial services or payments industry
  • Experience working in a remote environment and managing virtual relationships
