Job Description

About the Role

The Lead Transmission Line Engineer will play a crucial role in designing and developing high-voltage transmission lines, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively. As a leader in this field, you will be responsible for mentoring and guiding less experienced engineers, as well as coordinating design activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transmission line design, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead and motivate teams.

The successful candidate will be working on a wide range of projects, from 69kV to 765kV transmission lines, and will be expected to stay up-to-date with the latest industry developments and technologies. You will be working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with clients, engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality results.

What You Will Do

  • Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range using PLS-CADD software
  • Mentor and train less experienced design team members to improve their skills and knowledge
  • Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others, including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models
  • Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes and contribute to its continuous improvement
  • Lead teams in taking engineering problems from issue to solution using data and modern tools
  • Direct automation and process-improvement work to improve workflows and reduce rework
  • Oversee engineers who program or script to automate engineering tasks
  • Review automated outputs to ensure accuracy and quality

What We Are Looking For

  • BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program
  • 10 or more years of transmission design experience
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD software
  • Experience in preparing scopes of work, developing conceptual designs, determining design basis, selecting equipment and materials, and preparing calculations and specifications
  • Experience working directly with clients on transmission lines from 69kV through 500kV
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, and ANSI
  • Experience reviewing design drawings created by others

Nice to Have

  • PE license
  • PMP certification
  • Construction experience
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS
  • Experience with AI and automation in engineering workflows
