About the Role
The Learning & Development Specialist at HealthCorps plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between curriculum design and program delivery. As the connective tissue between these two essential components, this specialist ensures that the training and development experience for mentors is best-in-class, resulting in confident, skilled facilitators who can effectively deliver the curriculum to students. The role involves coaching mentors, developing practical resources, and collaborating with various teams to ensure the success of HealthCorps' programs.HealthCorps is a national non-profit organization that addresses health challenges in communities through innovative programming, including education, leadership, and service learning for teens. The organization partners with local colleges and universities to deploy college-age mentors into schools, where they connect with students as relatable role models. The curriculum team at HealthCorps builds great health education content, which is then brought to life by the college mentors, supported by their Regional Managers.
The Learning & Development Specialist reports to the Manager of Mentor Experience and works closely with the curriculum, program, and evaluation teams. This role is not only essential for the success of HealthCorps' programs but also serves as a professional development engine for the mentors, many of whom are pre-health students heading into careers in medicine, public health, and healthcare.
What You Will Do
- Design and deliver onboarding programs that prepare mentors for various settings, including classroom and club-based environments
- Develop ongoing professional development that supports mentors' ability to deliver the program with growing ease and mastery
- Create practical, mentor-ready resources such as videos, how-to guides, templates, and quick-reference sheets
- Partner with the curriculum team to review new lesson plans and activities before rollout, providing feedback on clarity, supplies, and feasibility
- Translate curriculum into mentor-ready training, turning lesson plans into actionable guides
- Collaborate with Regional Program Managers to provide training tools and support local accountability
- Work with the data team to understand what's working and areas for improvement
- Coach mentors to be confident, skilled facilitators of the curriculum
- Build mentors' fluency in program administration, including activity logs, proof of programming, photos, stories, and site communication
- Ensure training needs account for the dynamics and engagement levels of both middle and high school students
What We Are Looking For
- Experience in training and development, particularly in a remote or educational setting
- Strong digital skills, including proficiency in online learning platforms and tools
- Excellent coaching and communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse groups of mentors and students
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, effective training programs
- Experience working in health education or a related field
- Familiarity with near-peer mentorship models and their application in educational settings
- Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work across departments and teams
