About the Role
As a Legal Engineer at Gitlab, you will play a pivotal role in translating legal requirements into practical systems, improving the efficiency of legal operations, and driving business growth. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, including legal, business, and technical departments, to design and maintain tools for contract workflows, compliance automation, and system integrations. What You Will Do
- Design and build automated workflows for legal tasks, including contract review, non-disclosure agreement routing, intellectual property enforcement, compliance monitoring, and data retention.
- Develop custom AI prompts, decision trees, and logic layers to support AI use-cases within connected tools.
- Partner with internal AI and machine learning teams to embed legal logic into broader company automation and tooling.
- Build self-service resources, including intake forms, playbooks, and decision trees, to reduce ad hoc legal requests and improve team efficiency.
- Own technical administration for parts of the legal technology stack, including contract lifecycle management, e-billing, compliance platforms, and workflow automation tools.
- Evaluate new legal technology solutions, from prototyping and vendor assessment through integration and user adoption.
- Collaborate with Sales, Finance, Security, Trust & Safety, and other teams to design and maintain tools and workflows that meet business needs.
- Develop and maintain data analytics and reporting to measure the effectiveness of legal operations and identify areas for improvement.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in legal operations, making recommendations for process improvements and technology investments.
What We Are Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in legal operations, legal engineering, or a related field, with a strong understanding of legal processes and technologies.
- Proficiency in Salesforce and Adjust, with experience in implementing and integrating these tools in a legal operations context.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and implement automated workflows and systems integrations.
- Experience with AI-powered tools and technologies, including contract review and decision support systems.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong understanding of data analytics and reporting, with experience in developing and maintaining dashboards and metrics.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Computer Science, or a related field, with a strong academic record and relevant professional certifications.

- Experience with Ironclad CLM and related platforms, with a strong understanding of contract lifecycle management and e-billing systems.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies in legal operations, including blockchain, machine learning, and natural language processing.
