About the Role
The Liability Claims Specialist role at Coterie Insurance is a unique opportunity to join a team that's revolutionizing the commercial insurance industry. As a key member of the claims team, you'll be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to resolve complex commercial property and casualty claims. You'll work closely with the Claims Leadership Team and collaborate with cross-functional team members to drive process improvements and ensure seamless execution.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial property and casualty claims, with a deep understanding of insurance concepts, policy construction, and adjuster licensing. You'll need to be an exceptional communicator, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including insureds, claimants, and counsel.
What You Will Do
- Develop and implement strategies to resolve commercial property and casualty claims of moderate severity and complexity
- Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional team members on process, product, and project initiatives
- Investigate claims and review insureds' and claimants' materials, documents, and reports
- Identify and assess coverage issues, draft coverage position letters, and retain coverage counsel when necessary
- Analyze coverage and damages to estimate, assess, and recommend reserves
- Maintain a diary of all claims, post reserves in a timely fashion, and respond to claims inquiries from insured, counsel, underwriters, brokers, and senior management
- Negotiate resolution of claims and assist in the development of best practices
- Work with underwriting on appetite selection, form development, and jurisdictional analysis
- Identify and review applicable statutes, rules, and case law
- Direct initial risk transfer, subrogation/salvage action, additional insured issues, and contractual indemnity issues
- Prepare and present written/oral reports to senior management
What We Are Looking For
- 5-7 years of experience in the insurance industry, preferably in a claims-related role
- Considerable working knowledge of commercial property and casualty claims, policy construction, and ISO Commercial BOP forms
- Proper adjuster licensing in all applicable states
- Legal concepts and processes knowledge base
- Exceptional communication, influencing, evaluation, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work regular core hours, with occasional off-hours work pending business needs
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
