About the Role
The Library and Research Analyst role is a critical component of Harbor's service offerings, providing expert research support to law firms and corporations. As a key member of the Library and Research department, you will conduct in-depth legal research, analyze complex data, and present findings in a clear and concise manner. Your expertise will enable Harbor's clients to make informed decisions and drive business success.The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will involve working closely with attorneys, legal assistants, and other stakeholders to understand research requirements, identify relevant sources, and deliver high-quality research results. You will also have the opportunity to develop and maintain research guides, participate in professional development activities, and contribute to the continuous improvement of Harbor's research services.
As a remote member of the team, you will be expected to work independently with minimal supervision, managing competing deadlines and prioritizing tasks to ensure timely delivery of research results.
What You Will Do
- Conduct sophisticated legal research utilizing electronic research resources and internal tools
- Perform reference interviews to distill research results into clear and concise reports
- Evaluate diverse information sources for currency, reliability, relevance, and cost-effectiveness
- Assist in instructing attorneys, legal assistants, and others in the use of legal research tools and services
- Maintain research proficiency across a wide spectrum of business, legal, legislative, analytics, and docket resources
- Utilize request tracking software to track and process research requests
- Continuously develop professional skills through library association membership and activities
- Collaborate with team members to achieve departmental goals and objectives
- Develop and maintain research guides and other knowledge management resources
- Participate in quality control activities to ensure high-quality research results
What We Are Looking For
- MLS and/or demonstrated relevant professional research experience in a private law firm or academic law library
- 4-6 years of experience providing research in a private law firm, academic law library, or special library or research center
- Experience with legal and business information resources, online database searching, business research, and legal research practice and procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex research results in a clear and concise manner
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines
- Client service orientation, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality research results and exceptional customer service
Nice to Have
- Experience with Lexis, Westlaw, and other standard legal research databases
- Familiarity with request tracking software and other research management tools
- Certification in legal research or a related field
