About the Role

Day-to-day, you will be evaluating translations of short texts, comparing them to the original meaning, and providing feedback. Your input will be crucial in helping to develop more accurate and nuanced machine translation systems. You will be working independently as an independent contractor, with the opportunity to choose your preferred translation when multiple options are available.

What You Will Do

• Review translations of short, informal texts and rate them based on how well they match the source meaning.
• Evaluate the accuracy of each translation and provide brief comments to support your ratings.
• Compare multiple translations and select the best one based on quality and clarity.
• Work on improving machine translation systems by providing detailed feedback.

What We Are Looking For

• Native-level fluency in Lingala.
• Strong comprehension of English to understand source texts and provide accurate translations.
• Background in translation or linguistics is preferred but not required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to provide clear, constructive feedback.
• Experience working with digital tools and platforms for translation and evaluation.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting and manage time effectively.
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate translations accurately.
• Ability to communicate effectively and provide feedback in a clear, respectful manner.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience in translation evaluation or a related field.
