Job Description

About the Role

The Linguistic QA Tester position at Welocalize is a critical component of the company's quality management team, ensuring that all localized content meets the highest standards of linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and technical functionality. This role is ideal for individuals with a keen eye for detail, a passion for languages, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for proofreading and editing content to detect errors in grammar, syntax, punctuation, and capitalization, among other aspects.

Day-to-day, the Linguistic QA Tester will navigate through various tasks, from reviewing localized materials for accuracy and completeness to collaborating with project managers to resolve linguistic issues. This involves not only a deep understanding of the target language but also the ability to apply this knowledge within the context of different software, mobile apps, and documentation, ensuring that the user experience is seamless and intuitive.

The role requires a strong commitment to quality, the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently, and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Given the nature of the work, candidates must be comfortable working in a stationary position for extended periods and be proficient in using a computer mouse and keyboard for extended durations. The work environment may expose individuals to a wide range of content, including material that could be considered offensive, underscoring the need for professionalism and sensitivity.

What You Will Do

  • Proofread and edit localized content to ensure linguistic accuracy, including grammar, syntax, punctuation, and capitalization.
  • Translate content from English to the target language when required, maintaining high standards of quality and cultural relevance.
  • Identify and report bugs and errors using internal database systems and client-specific bug tracking tools.
  • Evaluate translations within the context of software, mobile apps, and documentation to ensure appropriateness and accuracy.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for linguistic issues in the target language, conducting research and resolving linguistic questions as they arise.
  • Adhere to project-specific quality standards, style guides, and client-preferred checklists and glossaries.
  • Troubleshoot basic problems and communicate effectively with the team to escalate testing issues.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely and quality manner, meeting deadlines and project requirements.
  • Collaborate with the quality management team to refine processes and improve the overall quality of localized content.
  • Provide input on linguistic and cultural aspects of content to project managers and other stakeholders.

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong English skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate communication with the global team.
  • Experience working with MS applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to navigate networks and websites with different browsers, along with basic knowledge of PC hardware and smart phones.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality, with the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Awareness of current and common technical language usage in the target language, along with the ability to stay updated on linguistic trends.

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience in localization, QA testing, or translation, particularly in a technical or digital context.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in additional MS applications or experience with content management systems.
