About the Role
The Localisation Linguist role at DNEG is a unique opportunity for linguists to take ownership of language quality and tooling for digital humans. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for ensuring that digital humans speak across languages with accuracy, nuance, and excellence. You will work closely with the VAANI team to define and improve how voice is generated and evaluated in your language.The role is based in London and will involve supervising external linguists, building and maintaining linguistic assets, and collaborating with engineers and product teams to drive the tooling forward. Your expertise in linguistics, translation, and localisation will be essential in shaping the tools that produce high-quality translation and voice output.
What You Will Do
- Own linguistic quality for translated text in your language(s), reviewing, QC, and correcting as necessary
- Review and evaluate synthesised voice from VAANI in your language, focusing on linguistic correctness, naturalness, prosody, pronunciation, emotion, and timing
- Work directly with the VAANI team to define and improve how voice is generated and evaluated in your language
- Help design the linguist-facing platform experience, including workflows, review screens, and tooling
- Build and maintain linguistic assets for your language, including style guides, glossaries, evaluation criteria, and pronunciation guidance
- Set the quality standards and turnaround expectations for external vendors and internal speakers
- Turn linguistic problems into structured, actionable input for engineering and product teams
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the development of digital humans
- Participate in the testing and evaluation of new tools and technologies
What We Are Looking For
- Native or near-native command of your language, with strong English skills
- Formal training or equivalent professional experience in linguistics, translation, or localisation
- Fluency with AI tools and a willingness to learn new technologies
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, undefined environment
- Strong attention to detail and quality-obsessed mindset
- Experience with localisation tooling, CAT tools, or QA platforms is a plus
- Technical literacy and an understanding of how AI models behave and fail
Nice to Have
- Experience with voice, TTS, or speech evaluation
- Knowledge of multiple languages, including English
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems
- Experience with data analysis and metrics-driven decision making
