Job Description

About the Role

The Locator position at Aecon Group Inc. is a critical role that entails performing utility locates for various infrastructure projects. As a member of the Aecon Utilities team, you will be responsible for safely locating underground utilities, including gas, electricity, telecommunications, water, and sewers. Your work will be crucial in ensuring the successful execution of projects, and you will be part of a team that prioritizes safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Reporting to the Locates Supervisor, you will work closely with the locate project teams to identify and document utility locates using electronic locating equipment and utility record systems. Your day-to-day tasks will include field marking and documenting utility locates, completing locate requests, and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.

What You Will Do

  • Safely locate underground utilities using utility record systems and electronic locating equipment
  • Field mark and document utility locates using locate work management software
  • Complete locate requests assigned by Foreperson/Coordinator/Superintendent accurately and in a timely manner
  • Understand and utilize infrastructure records in planning and completing utility locates
  • Safely operate a company-provided vehicle, including planning travel to and from work sites
  • Work as a member of locate project teams
  • Communicate with Superintendent, Foreman, Coordinator, and Client contacts (both internal and external to Aecon)
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

What We Are Looking For

  • Valid Ontario (G) Driver's License and clean driver's record
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work independently and stay productive under minimal supervision
  • Ability to work long hours when required to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work accurately and problem-solve under pressure
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work to timelines
  • Ability to interact with customers in a professional manner
  • Strong computer skills, including work management software, Email, MS Excel, and MS Word

Nice to Have

  • Experience with public locates, private locates, pre-engineering locates, and Vital Main Integrity (gas distribution third-party observation)
  • Prior construction experience
  • DPT Ce certification
