About the Role

The Maintenance Technician position at FAVIO is a unique opportunity to work within a luxury private household and estate setting on the picturesque west coast of Barbados. This role is integral to the smooth operation of the estate, ensuring that all aspects of the property are well-maintained and functioning properly. The successful candidate will be part of a team that prides itself on delivering exceptional service, maintaining the highest standards of presentation, and ensuring the estate runs efficiently.

Day-to-day, the Maintenance Technician will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, from routine maintenance and inspections to diagnosing and repairing faults in electrical systems, basic plumbing, and HVAC support. The ability to work both independently and as part of a small team is crucial, as is the capability to communicate effectively with senior maintenance staff and external contractors.

The role requires a strong electrical knowledge base, with the ability to diagnose and repair electrical faults, replace components, and perform safe isolation and basic testing. Given the luxury nature of the estate, a keen eye for detail and a high standard of presentation are essential. The Maintenance Technician will also be involved in supporting the implementation of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules and maintaining accurate maintenance records, which is vital for the long-term integrity of the estate's systems and structures.

What You Will Do

  • Carry out routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs across electrical systems, including lighting, sockets, and switchboards.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults, replacing components as necessary and performing safe isolation and basic testing.
  • Support the implementation of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules to ensure the estate's systems are always in good working order.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records, which are critical for compliance and future maintenance planning.
  • Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests and emergency callouts, ensuring minimal disruption to the estate's operations.
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of equipment, working under supervision when required.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, supporting inventory management and reporting stock requirements to ensure the estate is always equipped to handle maintenance needs.
  • Adhere to Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work, ensuring compliance with health & safety and site security protocols at all times.
  • Liaise with senior maintenance staff and external contractors, ensuring clear communication and proper handover of unresolved issues.
  • Operate professionally within a luxury environment, maintaining discretion, efficiency, and a high standard of presentation at all times.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualified Electrician with relevant trade certifications (essential).
  • Additional trade certifications in plumbing and/or HVAC are advantageous, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3-5 years' practical experience in maintenance within residential or commercial properties, preferably in a luxury setting.
  • Proven experience in fault-finding, basic testing, and preventative maintenance, with a strong electrical knowledge base.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and effective time management, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Reliable, proactive, and capable of working independently or within a small team, with a strong focus on teamwork and collaboration.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to maintain basic records/logs, with a high level of literacy and numeracy.
  • Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces, with a willingness to adapt to the physical demands of the role.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality, given the luxury and private nature of the estate.

  • Experience working in a similar luxury estate or high-end residential setting.
  • Knowledge of health & safety regulations and practices, with a keen eye for risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Basic first aid training, which could be beneficial in emergency situations.
