About the Role
The Maintenance Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas maintains a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for its guests and staff. This role entails a variety of tasks that require a strong cross-functional skillset, including plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and painting. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver who can work independently and manage a daily task list effectively. The Maintenance Technician will be part of a team committed to operational excellence and will report to the retreat management.The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will involve handling general repairs and basic upkeep across the property, ensuring that all facilities are in good working condition. This includes but is not limited to, room plumbing, basic electrical work, basic carpentry, painting, and tiling. The ability to communicate effectively with the retreat management and other staff members is crucial for the success of this role.
What You Will Do
- Replace faucets, clear clogged bathtubs and sinks, repair toilets, and address minor leaks in room plumbing.
- Perform basic electrical work such as replacing light fixtures, updating outlets and switches, and troubleshooting minor electrical issues safely.
- Conduct basic carpentry tasks including repairing doors, cabinets, shelves, and handling light woodwork or hardware replacements.
- Patch holes, sand, repair drywall damage, and perform interior/exterior touch-ups and paint jobs.
- Repair or replace damaged wall and floor tiles, regrout, and seal.
- Maintain a daily task list and manage time effectively to ensure all tasks are completed.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Communicate effectively with retreat management and other staff regarding maintenance needs and progress.
- Ensure all work is done to a high standard, with attention to detail and a focus on delivering neat, high-quality workmanship.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated on best practices and new techniques in maintenance and repair.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician or in a similar role with a strong cross-functional skillset.
- Hands-on proficiency with standard hand tools, power tools, and basic plumbing/electrical equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and manage a daily task list effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with retreat management and staff.
- Must be legally authorized to work in The Bahamas (valid citizenship, permanent residency, or work permit).
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects as needed for maintenance tasks.
- Basic knowledge of safety procedures and practices to ensure a safe working environment.
