About the Role
The Manager, Accounting Advisory role at Wipfli is a unique opportunity for experienced accounting professionals to lead construction industry clients in achieving financial excellence. As a key member of the Accounting Advisory practice, you will serve as the primary point of contact for clients, delivering high-quality financial reporting, reviewing work-in-progress schedules, and providing strategic guidance to improve processes and operational efficiency. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve partnering closely with client accounting teams and CFOs to bring a solutions-focused approach to strengthening financial performance. You will also have the opportunity to lead a remote team, mentor staff, and make a meaningful impact within Wipfli's collaborative, people-first culture. The construction industry is complex, with multiple stakeholders, tight deadlines, and intricate financial arrangements. As such, this role requires a deep understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, WIP schedules, and project-based cash flow dynamics.What You Will Do
- Review financial reporting packages and work papers for quality, completeness, and timely delivery
- Prepare and analyze benchmarking data and key performance indicators to support client insights
- Present completed reporting packages and findings to clients as directed
- Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models in alignment with client engagement terms
- Provide technical accounting support to clients and their teams on complex issues
- Identify operational inefficiencies through client discovery sessions and recommend actionable improvements
- Lead and coach staff and senior accountants, providing guidance on accounting and financial reporting matters
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, including owners, project managers, and external advisors
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments, best practices, and regulatory changes affecting the construction industry
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- 4-6 years of experience in public or private accounting, with a focus on construction industry clients
- 3+ years of experience managing associates and/or teams
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) preferred
- Working knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, retainage, and change orders
- Understanding of project-based cash flow dynamics, including timing differences between billing, collections, and costs
- Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
Nice to Have
- Proficiency in industry accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Foundation, Procore)
- Experience with multi-state operations, sales/use tax, and contractor-specific compliance considerations
- Demonstrated ability to influence others, promote constructive change, and develop team members
