About the Role

The Manager, AI Deployment Engineering role is a critical position at Openai, responsible for leading a team of engineers who support the company's enterprise customers in deploying AI systems. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership abilities, and customer-facing skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and managing a high-performing team, driving technical decision-making, and ensuring the success of Openai's customers. The Technical Success team at Openai is dedicated to helping customers realize meaningful value from the company's technology. As a key member of this team, the Manager, AI Deployment Engineering will work closely with customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders to identify opportunities, design and deploy AI systems, and navigate complex technical and organizational challenges. Openai's enterprise customers operate in a variety of industries, including professional services, media and entertainment, telecommunications, and private equity. These customers require AI systems that are secure, reliable, and scalable, and the Manager, AI Deployment Engineering will be responsible for ensuring that Openai's solutions meet these needs.

What You Will Do

Build, manage, and develop a high-performing team of AI deployment engineers
Own the quality and impact of the team's work across solution design, implementation, production readiness, adoption, and expansion
Coach the team through complex technical decisions involving architecture, model selection, evaluations, reliability, latency, safety, security, governance, and cost
Establish a clear operating model for prioritizing accounts and engagements based on customer need, strategic value, technical complexity, and potential for repeatable impact
Serve as a senior technical escalation point during critical launches, production incidents, complex integrations, and high-stakes customer decisions
Partner with customer executives and technical leaders to connect deployment decisions to measurable business and operational outcomes
Help customers progress from isolated experimentation to production deployments and sustained adoption across teams, workflows, and business units
Work closely with sales and solutions engineering to create continuity across the customer lifecycle and maintain shared accountability for customer success
Translate customer needs and recurring deployment challenges into actionable feedback for product, research, engineering, security, and other internal teams
Distinguish scalable market patterns from bespoke requests and advocate for investments that can benefit multiple customers
Develop reusable architectures, evaluation approaches, playbooks, tooling, and enablement that improve time to value across the enterprise portfolio

What We Are Looking For

5+ years of experience in a technical leadership role, preferably in AI or a related field
Strong technical skills, including experience with AI systems, cloud computing, and software development
Proven leadership abilities, with experience building and managing high-performing teams
Excellent communication and customer-facing skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience working with enterprise customers, preferably in industries such as professional services, media and entertainment, telecommunications, and private equity
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical and organizational challenges
Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Nice to Have

Experience with Openai's technology and products
Familiarity with cloud-based AI platforms such as AWS SageMaker or Google Cloud AI Platform
Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
Certification in AI or a related field, such as Certified Data Scientist or Certified AI Engineer
