About the Role
Datadog's Developer Advocacy team is at the forefront of the company's mission to break down silos and solve complexity in the cloud age. As a Manager I on this team, you will lead a group of Developer Advocates focused on Application Development and Performance. Your role will be pivotal in driving value in developer communities and championing modern software development practices across the industry. Day-to-day, you will be guiding your team's work priorities, identifying new career opportunities, and fostering a positive, high-performance culture. You will also contribute to defining the team's objectives and key results (OKRs) and team strategy, driving the execution of these. Ensuring your team consistently ships high-quality output will be a key focus, which includes removing technical and procedural roadblocks to help them do their best work.As part of the Datadog team, you will work in a dynamic environment that values people from all walks of life. What You Will Do
- Lead a team of Developer Advocates, guiding their work priorities and career development.
- Contribute to defining the team's OKRs and team strategy, driving the execution of these.
- Ensure your team consistently ships high-quality output, focusing on removing obstacles to their success.
- Strike a balance between management and hands-on delivery, contributing high-quality technical content as needed.
- Work across various internal teams, including Product, Engineering, and Marketing, to ensure they are supported across Advocacy initiatives.
- Represent Datadog in technical communities, through conference talks, workshops, live streaming, or recording videos.
- Participate in open-source initiatives and community events to foster relationships with potential customers and non-customers alike.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize new Advocacy initiatives.
- Develop and implement strategies for measuring the success of Advocacy efforts, providing data-driven insights to improve outreach and engagement.
What We Are Looking For
- A former software developer, SRE, or other technical practitioner with strong technical judgment and experience building or maintaining production systems.
- 2-5 years of experience managing a small team, including coaching performance, guiding career journeys, and breaking down complex projects into achievable plans.
- Experience as a respected developer advocate, skilled at reaching software developers across multiple channels.
- Comfort with at least 2 programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Node.js, bash) and familiarity with modern infrastructure such as IaaS cloud services and containers.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Experience with Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- A passion for technology and a desire to continuously learn and grow in the field.
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud-based technologies and monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git.
- Participation in or organization of tech meetups, conferences, or hackathons.
- Experience with content creation, such as blogging, video production, or podcasting.
