About the Role
The Manager I, Developer Advocacy role at Datadog is a unique opportunity to lead a team of skilled developer advocates and drive value in the developer community. As a technical leader, you will be responsible for guiding the team's priorities, identifying new career opportunities, and fostering a positive, high-performance culture. Your expertise in software development, infrastructure, and community engagement will be essential in driving the team's success.The role is part of Datadog's advocacy team, which is focused on sharing expertise with practitioners across the community, including customers and non-customers alike. As a manager, you will be expected to contribute to defining the team's objectives and key results (OKRs) and team strategy, driving the execution of these goals.
What You Will Do
- Lead a team of Developer Advocates, guiding their work priorities and fostering a positive, high-performance culture
- Contribute to defining the team's OKRs and team strategy, driving the execution of these goals
- Ensure the team consistently ships high-quality output, removing technical and procedural roadblocks to help them do their best work
- Strike a balance between management and hands-on delivery, contributing high-quality technical content as needed to support the team
- Work across various internal teams, including Product, Engineering, and Marketing to ensure they are supported across the growing number of Advocacy initiatives
- Participate in community events, conference talks, and workshops to promote Datadog's brand and expertise
- Collaborate with the team to develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement strategy
- Analyze metrics and feedback to improve the team's performance and community engagement
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, and industry leaders
What We Are Looking For
- A former software developer, SRE, or other technical practitioner with strong technical judgment and experience building or maintaining production systems
- 2-5 years of experience managing a small team, coaching their performance, and guiding their career journey
- Experience as a developer advocate, skilled at reaching software developers across multiple channels
- Strong technical expertise, including proficiency in at least 2 programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Node.js, bash)
- Familiarity with modern infrastructure, such as IaaS cloud services and containers
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to foster a positive, high-performance culture
- Experience with community engagement, including participating in open-source projects and community events
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze metrics and feedback
Nice to Have
- Experience with Datadog's products and services
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines and agile development methodologies
- Experience with public speaking, writing, and content creation
- Knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies, including cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning
