Job Description

About the Role

The Manager, Learning and Development role at Cohere is a unique opportunity to build and shape the company's learning and development function from scratch. As a senior-level individual contributor, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and scaling programs that foster the skills, knowledge, and capabilities of Cohere's employees. Your work will be instrumental in ensuring the company remains at the forefront of AI innovation. You will be working closely with stakeholders across the organization to identify skill gaps, develop targeted learning initiatives, and evaluate the effectiveness of these programs.

The role is based in Toronto, but with the option to work remotely, offering the flexibility to balance work and personal life. You will be part of a dynamic team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are passionate about their craft and committed to driving AI innovation forward.

What You Will Do

  • Build the foundation for the learning and development function, including defining its vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with Cohere's growth objectives.
  • Design, develop, and execute learning initiatives, including technical training, leadership development, and soft skills programs.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify skill gaps and learning needs across the organization.
  • Curate and create high-quality learning materials, including workshops, e-learning modules, and resources tailored to Cohere's unique context.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure learning programs are relevant, impactful, and integrated into daily workflows.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of learning initiatives using metrics like engagement, skill acquisition, and business impact.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning by promoting growth mindsets, recognizing achievements, and encouraging knowledge sharing.
  • Identify and collaborate with external vendors, thought leaders, or institutions to enhance Cohere's learning offerings.

What We Are Looking For

  • 7+ years of experience in a senior-level role in learning and development, with a proven track record of building and scaling L&D functions in tech or AI-driven environments.
  • Strong project management, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible learning content.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and learning technologies (e.g., LMS platforms).
  • Passion for empowering individuals and teams to reach their full potential.
  • Alignment with Cohere's values of innovation, collaboration, and integrity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Organizational Development, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
