About the Role
The Manager, Privacy role at Coinbase is a critical position that requires a seasoned professional to lead the company's privacy operations. As a key member of the team, you will work cross-functionally with Legal, Engineering, and Product teams to manage complex data protection projects and drive the company's privacy strategy forward. Your expertise in data protection laws, regulatory requirements, and industry standards will be essential in shaping Coinbase's approach to privacy.The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the crypto and blockchain landscape and be well-versed in the latest developments in data protection and privacy. You will be responsible for conducting gap assessments, performing privacy assessments, and developing and implementing scalable data protection programs. Your ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including data protection authorities, will be crucial in ensuring Coinbase's compliance with relevant regulations.
What You Will Do
- Conduct gap assessments against GDPR and other relevant Americas/EMEA/APAC regulations and track issues to remediation
- Perform privacy assessments, data reviews, maturity benchmarking, and operational effectiveness testing against Coinbase's common controls
- Develop, implement, and scale Coinbase's data protection program and governance model in partnership with Privacy Legal
- Collaborate with Platform and Security to implement technology controls to safeguard sensitive data
- Provide oversight into DPIAs and audit Coinbase Inc.'s privacy program
- Partner with data protection authorities in Americas as necessary
- Support efforts related to user-facing privacy notices, disclosures, and privacy controls/settings
- Collaborate with product teams to implement privacy-forward, secure, and customer-centric product design
- Oversee Privacy Incident Management program, including managing privacy incidents and program uplifts
What We Are Looking For
- 7+ years of experience in Data Protection/Privacy
- 2+ years of experience working within Financial Services or FinTech
- Fluency in performing risk assessments and compliance gap assessments against relevant regulatory requirements
- Strong understanding of data protection laws, including GDPR and other relevant regulations
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Engineering, and Product
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Nice to Have
- Experience working with data protection authorities and regulatory bodies
- Knowledge of crypto and blockchain technology
- Certification in data protection or privacy, such as CIPP or CIPM
- Experience with data protection tools and technologies, such as data discovery and classification tools
