Job Description

About the Role

The Manufacturing Test Engineer will play a critical role in Openai's Hardware organization, responsible for developing and deploying manufacturing test solutions for complex AI hardware systems. This role will require close collaboration with hardware design engineering, diagnostic/software teams, manufacturing engineering, quality, and external system integrators and suppliers to ensure seamless test execution.

As a Manufacturing Test Engineer at Openai, you will be part of a team that is pushing the boundaries of AI innovation. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include defining and driving the manufacturing test strategy, developing and managing test coverage, and partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure test requirements are met.

Openai's Hardware organization is committed to delivering production-grade silicon for Openai's supercomputing infrastructure, and this role will be instrumental in achieving that goal. What You Will Do

  • Define and drive the manufacturing test strategy for boards, trays, and system-level hardware assemblies across EVT, DVT, PVT, and production ramp
  • Develop and manage test coverage for ICT, FCT, tray-level functional test, and system-level manufacturing test
  • Partner with electrical engineering, system engineering, and diagnostic/software teams to define test requirements and validate failure isolation needs
  • Translate engineering requirements into practical, scalable manufacturing test plans
  • Collaborate with system integrators, JDMs, contract manufacturers, and equipment vendors to implement and qualify test stations
  • Review and analyze manufacturing test results, test logs, and diagnostic outputs to identify gaps and drive corrective actions
  • Lead or support debug of manufacturing test failures, working cross-functionally to determine root causes
  • Drive continuous improvement of test processes, including coverage expansion and cycle-time reduction
  • Ensure manufacturing test readiness for new product introduction, including test specifications and validation plans
  • Help establish scalable standards and best practices for manufacturing test development across Openai's hardware portfolio

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience developing and deploying manufacturing test solutions for complex electronics, servers, or high-performance compute hardware
  • Understanding of board-level and system-level test methodologies, including ICT, boundary scan, functional test, and production diagnostics
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and equipment configuration
  • Knowledge of industry-standard test tools and software
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, including quality control and yield management
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and drive corrective actions
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug complex test failures
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies, including Lean and Six Sigma
