Job Description

About the Role

The Media Manager at Internews will play a crucial role in leading the editorial function of the Earth Journalism Network, a global community of environmental journalists. As a key member of the team, you will oversee the quality and distribution of content across various platforms, manage a talented team of editorial staff, and drive the grants and fellowships process. Your expertise in editorial craft, environmental issues, and team management will be essential in shaping the direction of the network and ensuring its continued success.

The Earth Journalism Network is housed within Internews, a global non-profit media development organization. As such, you will be part of a larger team dedicated to improving the quality and quantity of environmental reporting worldwide. Your work will have a direct impact on the lives of journalists and communities around the globe, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative solutions to environmental challenges.

What You Will Do

  • Oversee the quality, flow, and distribution of content across the Earth Journalism Network's website, newsletter, and digital platforms
  • Manage editorial calendars in collaboration with program and communications teams
  • Sign off on social media content and partner with the Comms team on outreach strategy
  • Produce two-pagers, presentations, and other materials that communicate the Earth Journalism Network's mission and impact to external audiences
  • Directly supervise editorial staff and a roster of short- and long-term consultants
  • Manage the mentoring program, assigning mentors to grantees and coordinating with content coordinators and project staff
  • Monitor mentees' progress and offer constructive, practical guidance
  • Support recruitment needs and onboard new staff and consultants as needed
  • Lead or co-lead the selection processes for story grants, media grants, fellowships, and workshops
  • Oversee outcome harvesting work, tracking the real-world impact of supported stories and editing and publishing verified impact documentation
  • Track network member achievements and provide evidence of the Earth Journalism Network's value to journalists and communicators worldwide
  • Lead selected projects and support other staff in designing and implementing programmatic activities

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in editorial management, preferably in a non-profit or environmental organization
  • Proven track record of managing teams and mentoring junior staff
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of environmental issues and reporting
  • Experience with programmatic advertising, Adjust, and Excel
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with digital platforms and content management systems

  • Experience with social media management and outreach strategy
  • Knowledge of grant writing and fundraising principles
  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes
