About the Role

The Member of Technical Staff, Modeling role at Cohere is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of frontier models for AI systems. As a key member of the team, you will design, build, and scale AI systems, working closely with researchers, engineers, and designers to drive innovation. Day-to-day, you will be responsible for researching, implementing, and experimenting with novel ideas, leveraging the company's extensive compute and data infrastructure. What You Will Do

  • Design, build, and scale AI systems for serving users
  • Research, implement, and experiment with ideas on the company's supercompute and data infrastructure
  • Learn from and work with the best researchers in the field
  • Contribute to writing production code and conducting research depending on individual interest and organizational needs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and growth
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure the highest quality of code
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in AI research
  • Develop and maintain deep connections to academia
  • Design and implement novel research ideas
  • Ship state-of-the-art models to production

What We Are Looking For

  • Extremely strong software engineering skills
  • Proficiency in Python and related ML frameworks such as Tensorflow, TF-Serving, JAX, and XLA/MLIR
  • Experience writing kernels for GPUs using CUDA
  • Experience using large-scale distributed training strategies
  • Familiarity with autoregressive sequence models, such as Transformers
  • Strong understanding of machine learning concepts and algorithms
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

  • Paper at top-tier venues (such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AIStats, MLSys, JMLR, AAAI, Nature, COLING, ACL, EMNLP)
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and containerization
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies
