About the Role
The Menlo Fellows program is a paid internship designed to provide hands-on experience in AI, software engineering, and related fields. As a fellow, you will be working on real projects, contributing to the development of open-source and production AI systems. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience, working closely with experienced engineers and researchers who will mentor and guide you throughout the program.The role is deliberately open-ended, allowing you to bring your strengths and interests to the table. You will be matched with a senior researcher or engineer who will oversee your work and provide feedback on your progress. The goal is to produce high-quality, production-grade work that contributes to the company's mission.

What You Will Do
- Own a real project from end to end, from problem definition through implementation, testing, and documentation
- Ship production-grade work in one or more areas: product engineering, systems, infrastructure, applied AI, or research
- Work on core Menlo projects, including developer tooling, model runtime, and performance, automation, and reliability improvements
- Debug real issues across codebases and environments, and propose fixes that improve correctness, performance, and maintainability
- Write clear documentation, runbooks, or internal notes that make your work easy for the team to adopt
- Collaborate closely with engineers and researchers through code reviews and technical discussions
- Participate in the design and development of new features and systems
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies
- Contribute to the company's open-source projects and initiatives
- Engage in knowledge-sharing sessions and workshops to improve your skills and knowledge
What We Are Looking For
- University, high school, or mid-career individuals looking for a crash course in physical AI and robotics
- The ability to read unfamiliar codebases and make safe, well-scoped changes
- Practical debugging skills: you can isolate problems and validate fixes
- A grasp of software or hardware engineering basics: testing, version control, and review
- A high ownership mindset and the ability to work independently with fast feedback loops
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work in a remote environment and manage your time effectively
- Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts
